Historische pracht en modern comfort

Panquin is a harmonious blend of historical heritage and contemporary architecture

The serenity of nature, close to Brussels

Residents can thus enjoy nature to the fullest while being just 15 minutes away from the bustling centre of Brussels.

Various residential interpretations

Panquin offers four unique concepts, catering to diverse lifestyles.

Idyllic green oasis close to Brussels

The Panquin site is situated in the green belt around Brussels, on the edge of the Sonian Forest, near Tervuren Park. The vibrant city centre of Brussels is just a 15-minute drive from this charming municipality. More than a quarter of the site, which used to be mainly paved, will be transformed into a green park zone - accounting for some 10,000 square metres of greenery. Its maintenance is in the hands of the Municipality of Tervuren municipality, along with the Flemish Agency for Nature & Forest.

We are delighted that we have been able to translate the municipality's urban development vision into this master plan and have succeeded in combining the landscape, monuments, open spaces and new-build wings into one coherent whole, always drawing on the identity of Tervuren for inspiration."
Davy Demuynck
- CEO & Co-founder ION
"With this project, PMV assumes its social role for the benefit of a beautiful heritage site in Flanders, lending its support for the sustainable repurposing and development of this 18th-century monument. Moreover, we are happy to do this together with the municipality of Tervuren and in a joint venture with our trusted partner ION."
- Erwin Vrijens, Head of Real Estate at PMV.
Panquin offers four unique concepts, catering to diverse lifestyles: 'Plein' with breathtaking views, 'Park' with idyllic greenery, 'Toren' with exclusive height and 'Poort' for comfortable living.

Panquin in numbers

  • Renovation of a listed heritage site into 100 flats
  • 6 retail units (1,088 m2)
  • A hotel with 108 rooms and communal areas (spa, restaurant, bar, meeting rooms, events venue, and multipurpose room)
  • Municipal museum
  • Site area: 37,000 m2
  • Hotel: 9,800 m2
  • Residential: 12,300 m2

Repurposing with three new-build wings

The Municipality of Tervuren acquired the site from the Ministry of Defence, awarding the redevelopment contract to the ION/PMV consortium after an open competition. The existing heritage will be restored and given a new use. Four new-build wings will also be added. The 100 residential units cater to all possible types of families.

The building was designed as a counterpendant to the historic Orangerie. It has large, bright rooms, spacious terraces, exclusive finishings, and breathtaking views of the historical landmarks.

This residential wing connects seamlessly to the park forest, ensuring residents also enjoy great views of the site. The cosy, comfortable flats are finished to a high standard.

This small-scale residence is built on an elevation, for impressive panoramic views. The flats all have a high-end finishing, under the supervision of an interior designer. The epitome of exclusive living.

This residential development serves as a gateway to the centre of Tervuren. Here, living comfort and quality of life go hand in hand. The ground floor houses offices, hospitality establishments, and retail units.

A well thought-out master plan

The Mayor and Aldermen of Tervuren had long dreamed of restoring and strengthening the relationship and connection between the Panquin site and the town centre and the surrounding landscape. This led to the competition for the repurposing of the site.

With the support of a top team of experts

The redevelopment of Panquin into a harmonious, contemporary residential setting is the result of the efforts of a team of leading experts and visionary partners. ION, PMV, and the municipal administration are transforming the historic barracks into a site that embraces and enhances Tervuren's rich identity.

Exceptional collaboration with Martin's Hotels

The Hoefijzer complex (the old barracks) and the Orangerie - listed as a monument since 2004 - will house a Martin's Hotel after the renovation. Many of this hotel group's establishments are located in heritage properties. "We are very excited that we have been able to secure another top-notch location for Martin's Hotels," said John Martin, CEO of Martin's Hotels. The hotel has 108 rooms, multi-purpose rooms, meeting rooms, spa facilities, a lobby, a bar, a restaurant and a terrace.

"In addition to lots of greenery, we have also placed a strong emphasis on sustainability. This is a constant in all our projects. A geothermal heat network was installed on the Panquin site, which heats the flats and hotel in winter but can also cool them in summer. That way, the site uses virtually no fossil fuels. There are solar panels on the roofs, so electricity generation is also as green as possible. Water is also used sparingly. There will be a water network on the site for the purification and reuse of used water."
