The Top Hockey League (THL), the association of clubs that brings together the men's and women's leagues of the Belgian premier league, is now called the ION Hockey League. The THL and the Belgian project developer and real estate investor ION have signed a partnership that starts immediately and runs at least until June 2024. The ambition of the ION Hockey League is to grow into the best and leading field hockey league in the world.

"When Cedric and his team approached us, we were really impressed with the vision to be the best field hockey league in the world. At ION we also say that we want to be 'Best in Class,' so we matched right there. In addition, we are a national company with projects in key Belgian cities where the ION Hockey League has participating clubs. The brand awareness generated by the title sponsorship will help us raise awareness of ION even more. We will introduce the ION Man of the Match during the TV matches with which we will give the players extra exposure. Finally, the ION Hockey Finals also provide a unique event hospitality platform to welcome customers and employees. So all in all, really a complete package for ION."

As a fast-growing company, we are always looking for ways to develop our brand and customer base. We have always felt that field hockey as a sport resonates well with our brand and the values we believe in. First, it is a very fair sport with great sports values such as respect and sportsmanship. Second, it is a family sport with a strong generational DNA. And finally, like ION, field hockey is doing well and growing on the national and international stage. There seems to be a good energy between all the key players in the sport and we want to help pass on the passion.

"In recent years, we as THL have brought structure to our competitions and built bridges between the clubs and the KBHB," adds Michel Schuermans, director of the THL. "Now, thanks to ION's support, we can further roll out our strategy. The ION Hockey League is the THL 2.0! With the resources we will now have, we can make our championship even more attractive by developing new things. First and foremost, we want to expand our digital footprint with a new website and a shared streaming platform. By installing smart cameras, we can stream all games - at least the ones that are not live on TV - and automatically generate highlights of all games to share through our various channels."

The ION Hockey League gets back underway next weekend with the Oree-Leuven match on Sunday, Feb. 27 (at 12:30 p.m.), which can be viewed live on Telenet, Proximus and VOO channels. The league ends with the ION Hockey Finals on May 7 and 8, 2022 in Louvain-la-Neuve.
