Sites in action: 12 ION projects under construction

These past few months almost everything was at a standstill, but at ION we like to ambitiously look to the future. At the moment we are back at work in full swing. Check out these 12 projects spread across Flanders that are currently being built. 

Waregem Business Park is the first CO₂-neutral construction project in Belgium. It is also our home base. Many other companies have now moved in to the surrounding buildings. We are currently building the last unit. The cherry on the cake for this sustainable landmark on the outskirts of Waregem. 

Townhouse and Overlys are two small-scale residences with a view of the river Lys in Kortrijk. Overlys has eight apartments and Townhouse has twenty quayside residences which have all been sold and are in full construction. These residences represent a new living experience: they combine the luxury of a villa with the flexibility of a city apartment. 

Suikerpark in Veurne is a new 65,000-m2 urban district. It will be a sustainable mix of living, working and leisure which will comprise various forms of housing. Brikkerij will feature family homes and apartments with green views. Suikertoren, on the other hand, will be home to skyflats overlooking Veurne. Suikerpark is an exemplary project for the Flemish Sustainability Meter Neighbourhoods (Vlaamse Duurzaamheidsmeter Wijken). 

Vanishing Point is the first ION project boasting sea views. The luxurious apartments either overlook the promenade or the revamped shopping street. The design by Govaert & Vanhoutte distinguishes itself from the other apartments at the seaside through the use of sustainable wood, concrete and glass as the main building materials. The underground car parks close to the sea make this building a technical masterpiece. 

In the green outskirts of Brussels we are creating Leeuweryck, a complex with 37 assisted living units and 25 apartments with underground car parks. The functional and sleek design was created by B2Ai architects. 80% of the units have been sold. 

Our second site in the Brussels Region is located in Halle. There we are developing Parkrand: assisted living units, apartments, office spaces and an underground car park on an area of 13,000 m2. Parkrand is located right next to the revamped Elisabeth Park - surrounded by nature, yet close to the capital. 

Pulse is an office project at an easily accessible location in Ghent. It consists of two buildings with seven floors each. Pulse focuses strongly on green mobility, with, among other things, shared cars and bicycles, electric charging stations and smooth connections with public transport. The buildings themselves are also equipped with climate ceilings, LED lighting and green roofs. 

Nieuwland has just been launched. It will be a new district in the centre of Ghent, with apartments, houses and a commercial space. In addition to the private terraces and gardens, it also includes a green interior garden. Thanks to a wide range of sustainable techniques, all homes comply with the near-zero-energy principles. 

Treenity is a small-scale project adjacent to and with a view of Liedekerkebos. The stylish design by FVWW architects features only two floors, which results in more peace and quiet. Thanks to the private terraces and large windows, each apartment boasts a lot of natural light. This complex is close to the centre of Liedekerke and just a stone’s throw from Brussels and Aalst. 

Soon we will also start the construction works on Roots in Herent. This project consists of 80 apartments a stone's throw from Leuven. The apartments are sustainable and affordable, without sacrificing comfort. Moreover, Roots is surrounded by nature and easily accessible. 

The second project that is now under construction on the coast is Hazee. This striking residence with 20 apartments will be built at a prime location in Ostend. Each apartment has its own terrace and city views. Hazee is now 100% sold. Subsequently, 48 student rooms will be built for the students of VIVES University of Applied Sciences. 

Finally, there is the Niefhout site in Turnhout, a sustainable new district of 80,000 m2. It is an inner-city development consisting of several phases. Niefhout will comprise apartments, houses, assisted living units and office buildings with the Pioneer Building of Niefhout acting as the core. Niefhout will be an environmentally-friendly district with 20,000 m2 of extra public space and a new heat network.
