A new sustainable residential district is set to rise on the former Gantoise site in Gentbrugge. A design proposal has now also been presented for the section located on the grounds of the old Ottenstadion. This area will include 150 homes with private gardens or terraces, a large neighbourhood park, collective gardens, and space for local amenities.

The future sustainable residential district on the former Gantoise site will consist of approximately 287 homes, centred around a large neighbourhood park. Construction has already begun on the section that formerly housed the tennis and hockey clubs, a development known as Project De Stip. The area that was once home to the Ottenstadion is being developed by the urban development company sogent in partnership with ION and Alides. A design proposal has now been put forward for this section.

Spread across multiple buildings, the development will include 150 homes, with 40% designated for social and budget-friendly rental housing. The project offers a mix of single-family homes, multi-family units, and apartments, each featuring a private garden or terrace. A large neighbourhood park will pay homage to the site's sporting past. Additionally, collective gardens and spaces for local amenities—such as a hospitality venue, coworking space, and childcare centre—will further enrich the district.

Sustainability is at the heart of this design proposal. The rooftops will be equipped with solar panels, a geothermal energy field (BEO field) will be implemented, and additional focus will be placed on water features and green façades. Cars will be directed to an underground parking facility accessible via Bruiloftstraat, while extra emphasis will be placed on seamless public transport connections, cycling infrastructure, and shared mobility options.

“On these sogent-owned grounds, we are strongly committed to affordable housing: 20% of these homes will be social rental units, and 20% will be budget rental homes. In addition, the district will be enhanced with a fully developed park and space for community facilities. A great project!”

Community Information Session

According to the current timeline, environmental permits will be applied for in 2026 and 2027, with construction expected to commence in 2028. Local residents are invited to review the plans and design during an information session on Tuesday, 25 March, from 16:30 to 20:00 at the Atheneum Gentbrugge.

The project is the result of a design competition. Sogent awarded the assignment to the ION and Alides team, which assembled a design team including Areal Architecten, Denc!-studio, and BLAF Architecten.
