ION adapts its Development team and strengthens its strategic local presence with new appointments and organisational changes
After nearly a decade as a driving force behind ION’s development in Brussels, Alexis Spaas is stepping down from his role as Head of Development. With Katrien Van Dijck and Maarten Wuyts now leading our business units in Brussels and Flanders, ION enters a new strategic chapter. At the same time, four talented colleagues have been promoted to Project Development Director. These changes strengthen our local presence and reaffirm our commitment to sustainable and innovative urban development. The future of ION is built on experience, ambition, and the strength of our team.
After nearly a decade of impactful leadership for ION in Brussels and Brabant, Alexis Spaas, Head of Development Brussels, has decided to pursue a new entrepreneurial path. Alexis has played a pivotal role in establishing ION’s presence in Brussels, overseeing complex transactions, mentoring talent, and steering numerous landmark developments. His entrepreneurial spirit has left a lasting legacy within our team.
To ensure continuity and a smooth transition, Alexis will remain engaged part-time until the end of this year, ensuring the handover of his responsibilities and focusing on some key projects. Starting in June, we are proud to welcome Katrien Van Dijck as the new Head of Business Unit Brussels. With her extensive experience and dynamic leadership, Katrien will lead ION’s future developments in the capital region.
Simultaneously, Maarten Wuyts will take on the role of Head of Business Unit Flanders, further reinforcing our strategic presence in key growth areas.
In line with our ambition to grow our regional impact, we are also pleased to announce the promotion of four team members to the role of Project Development Director. A director will be responsible for a strategic part of ION’s developments and oversee one or more Project Developers.

- Sander Plets – projects in Flemish Brabant
- Aurélien Gillet – projects in Brussels
- Hugues Hallard – projects in Wallonia and Luxembourg
