The Sky
Student rooms on the VIVES campus in Kortrijk
The context
Why The Sky?
The Sky rises on the VIVES University of Applied Sciences campus on the Doorniksesteenweg in Kortrijk. The number of students in Kortrijk is growing, which in turn drives up demand for high-quality, affordable student housing. More and more students are also choosing to live in a student room close to campus. That is why ION is developing student rooms in a 53-metre-high tower on the VIVES campus. The project is part of the One Campus Model, which aims to connect the campuses of VIVES, Kulak and Syntra more closely together.
Our answer
What does student housing look like on campus?
The Sky is a student tower rising 53 metres, with a total of 14 floors, including twelve residential levels housing 192 student rooms. Each room features a private bathroom, and on every floor, students share a communal kitchen. Two study rooms and a coworking space provide areas for individual or group work. The top floor offers a meeting room with an adjoining panoramic roof terrace overlooking Kortrijk. Around the tower, a former car park is being transformed into 3,439 m² of new parkland. This creates more space on the VIVES campus for living, studying and connecting with others.

Who is involved in The Sky?

The architectural design is by Link Lab, while main contractor Stadsbader is responsible for the execution of the works. The project has been sold in its entirety to an institutional investor, bringing together development, construction, investment and operation in one project that responds to the growing demand for student housing in Kortrijk.
