A new meeting place for sport and culture in Houthulst

The context

How can the leisure facilities in Houthulst secure their future?

In Houthulst, the local sports and cultural scene is gaining new momentum with the development of the Vrijetijdscampus. The municipality aims to upgrade the existing infrastructure and create additional space for sports, culture and leisure. The project therefore combines the renovation of the sports hall with new indoor and outdoor facilities. This will result in a vibrant meeting place where sports clubs, residents and visitors of all ages are welcome. With the Vrijetijdscampus, Houthulst is strengthening local community life and offering a wider range of leisure activities.

Our answer

How do renovation, new build and outdoor spaces connect with each other?

The renovated sports hall is complemented by a gymnastics hall, a multifunctional tennis hall and a music room. On top of the sports hall, there is a cafeteria overlooking the campus. The outdoor courts, padel courts and football facilities are also part of the whole. A distinctive red pavement connects the various buildings and grounds. Solar panels and a borehole energy storage (BEO) field support the campus’s energy-efficient operations.
