The Village

The Vesalius project in Tiensestraat was officially opened just yesterday, and today it was The Village’s turn.

The Village

Real estate project

This real estate project comprises seven building volumes that have been fitted out as student rooms and offices, located in a green area that covers nearly six thousand square metres. Around this time last year, the mayor of Leuven, Louis Tobback, cut the ribbon to open the first buildings. Today the complete project was formally inaugurated.

The Village

Modern

The Village was built by project developer ION on the old Davidsfonds and Studio Cinema site between Blijde Inkomststraat and Burgemeestersstraat. The head office of Davidsfonds will remain on the site, albeit in brand new offices (1,100 m2) with their entrance on Quinten Metsysplein instead of Blijde Inkomststraat. Besides that, The Village is first and foremost a modern student residence with no fewer than 246 student rooms, a vast green area (5,790 m2 of gardens) and numerous leisure facilities, including a multipurpose room with table soccer, a pool table and a separate TV room. Underground there are 74 parking spaces and a bicycle park for 298 bikes. The garden, with benches and all-weather fitness equipment, is also accessible for neighbourhood residents during the day, making the residence a genuine part of the social fabric that will result in a natural interaction between students and neighbourhood residents.

The Village

Design

For the design of The Village, ION worked with the renowned architectural firm Jaspers-Eyers, which has a branch in Tervuursevest and thus a strong link with Leuven. The design is a huge success, proven by the fact that all the units have already been sold. Jaspers-Eyers also designed the Vesalius complex, which was opened yesterday. With its cinemas and retail complex, Vesalius is reviving student life in the Mussenwijk area of Leuven, along with The Village, making sure that high-quality student housing continues to be available in sufficient quantities.
