WVI (Inter-Municipal Association of West Flanders) and the City of Veurne have selected ION for the second round of the development of the Sugar Factory site. This project involves a large-scale redevelopment south-east of the city centre, with an overall surface of 46 ha, encompassing over 400 homes, retail units, a nature park and business park.
Along with two other parties, ION is a contender for this ambitious project, which will be assigned by the end of this year, with development itself to begin by the end of next year.
For this project, ION has sought the support of an international team of experts, consisting of three architect firms (B-architecten, A1 planning and Denc!-studio), two landscape architect firms (Delva Landscape Architects and ARA), an urban development agency (CroonenBuro5), a sustainability expert (3E), a communications agency (Common Ground) and the multidisciplinary engineering firm Antea.
Together with this team, ION hopes to prove that it is possible to develop spaces creatively and to implement an innovative plan to pave the way towards a new, modern and sustainable form of project development.
