Construction of the student residence Flint in Leuven has begun

205 new student rooms to be finished by the 2016-2017 academic year
In the centre of Leuven, on a plot of land that used to belong to the OCMW (public social welfare centre), construction has begun on the new student residence Flint. The project includes 205 student rooms, racks for 230 bicycles and 66 underground parking spaces. The project developers, ION and Allfin, have invested over EUR 25 million . The state-of-the-art student residence will be ready by the beginning of the 2016-2017 academic year.
In the coming years the OCMW site between Frederik Lintsstraat, Vesaliusstraat and Brabançonnestraat will be put to new use with various functions. ION and Allfin have joined forces to develop the student residence Flint on the site. Project developer Cedric Olivier at ION explains: “Today the construction of this project began. A bottle of champagne was symbolically broken against the side of a support column made of Corten steel, which is one of the main elements in the building’s architecture .”

Premium architecture and a high-quality finish
Flint contains 205 student rooms in a premium architectural concept by Comodo Architects of Leuven. “We have opted for a youthful living concept, with rooms grouped in units of no more than 15. There are plain rooms as well as studio flats. All the rooms will be given a high-quality finish with superior materials”, Cedric Olivier tells us.
“We have also paid great attention to the communal areas, such as the wide entrance hall, a lounge, gym, pool table area and private balconies. A courtyard garden will also be created to provide the necessary peace and quiet.”
The new student residence is being built by contractor Louis Dewaele-Denys. The execution of the project is a partnership with Leuven University. That means, for example, that it meets the strict requirements in terms of design, construction technique, management and safety. There will be a resident concierge, access control and individual energy metering for each living unit.
The Flint project is offered to investors from a starting price of EUR 94,407. To date, 70% of the rooms have already been sold. Wilgimmo, a specialist in student accommodation rentals, will manage the property. More information about the new project can be found at www.flint-leuven.be.
